Linting

Loose fibre shed from a web during use.

Linting

Lint is what leaves the towel and lands somewhere it should not: on dark hair, in gel, on a lens. It is produced by short fibres at the surface that were never fully entangled, so it is a property of the web and the fibre length rather than of the finish.

It is also one of the few properties that cannot be judged from a data sheet. The practical test is a dark cloth and a firm wipe.
